Lee County Virginia Sheriff’s Office is now accepting applications for the position of Victim/Witness Program Assistant
Job Description:
 Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 
• Providing direct services to victims and witnesses of crime
• Seeking to reduce the trauma of victimization 
• Assisting victims in participating in the criminal justice system 
• Apprising victims of their rights and explaining the criminal justice system 
• Crisis counseling and referrals to organizations and government offices  for services
• Submitting compensation claims through the Virginia Victims Fund  
• Aiding victims with obtaining copies of documents, releases, etc...
• Assistance in preparing victim impact statements
• Assistance in explaining and  calculating restitution 
• Collecting and computing statistical information,  using a Victim Data Base
• Assisting  in obtaining orders of protection and jail notifications of  inmate releases 
• Ensuring proper services are delivered to victims with objectivity, empathy, and confidentiality
• Being on call daily, nights and weekends
Education, Abilities and Experience: 
• Minimum:  Associates Degree  or two years of college coursework completed 
• Prefer candidate with or seeking degree in Criminal Justice or related field
• Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of the criminal justice system
• Must understand crisis intervention and be able to assess and respond appropriately
Salary:  Position is grant funded.  Salary is negotiable and commensurate with experience and education
Starting date:  Approximately September 15, 2023
