Virginia's Sales Tax Holiday Returns this Weekend

Virginia’s annual Sales Tax Holiday Weekend starts tomorrow, Friday, October 20th at 12:01 AM and runs through Sunday, October 22nd at 11:59 PM.

While school has already started, it’s still a great time to reload on those school supplies that have run out, ensure your home is ready for severe weather, and save on your water and electric bills by switching to energy and water efficient appliances. This weekend only, Virginians can buy the following without paying state sales tax:

School Supplies & Clothing

Qualified school supplies costing less than $20 per item

Qualified shoes and clothing costing less than $100 per item

Hurricane & Emergency Preparedness Items

Portable generators costing less than $1,000 per item

Chainsaws (gas powered) costing less than $350 per item

Chainsaw accessories costing less than $60 per item

Other specified hurricane preparedness items costing less than $60 per item

Energy Star™ and WaterSense™ Products

Qualifying Energy Star™ and WaterSense™ items less than $2,500 per item; must be purchased for noncommercial and personal use
